ARTY MODERNISATION ON TRACK

Indian Army  has about 260 artillery regiments, equipped with 3 variants of Arty Guns ie, 105 mm, 130 mm and 155 mm  each having 21 guns (including reserves). The field artillery need to be highly maneuverable both strategically & tactically and the Army has been looking to replace around 2000 existing 105mm guns light fields guns with a mix of towed, mounted and wheeled artillery and upgrade of about 300 numbers of 130 mm Guns at the cost of Rs 700 crore.The army plans to make 155-mm its basic gun due to obvious advantage of logistics and end results in terms of range and lethality and the modernisation is estimated to be over Rs 50,000 crore.
