Indian Army Day 2018

The Indian Army celebrated the '70th Army Day' by paying respect to the martyr soldiers and the gallant heroes who sacrificed their lives for the protection of sovereignty, peace, and prosperity of the India. A day when Field Marshal Kodandera M Cariappa took over as the first Indian commander-in-chief in 1949. India organises military shows, parades in national capital and gave away gallantry awards and Commendation medals to soldiers and the next of kin of martyrs.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had addressed the Army, extended their greetings and paid homage to the martyrs at the Amar Jawan Jyoti, India Gate, New Delhi.

            Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his thoughts via Twitter. “On Army Day, I convey greetings to the soldiers, veterans and their families. Every citizen of India has unwavering trust and pride in our Army, which protects the nation and is also in the forefront of humanitarian efforts during times of natural disasters and other accidents.”

            From the Rashtrapati Bhavan, a Twitter message was released on behalf of the President of India. “On Army Day, greetings to the valiant men and women of the Indian Army, to veterans and to families of those who have worn the uniform. You are our nation's pride, the sentinels of our liberty. Citizens sleep securely knowing you are ever awake and ever vigilant.”

            Both the messages convey the sentiments of the entire nation. The Prime Minister also presented certificates to innovative officers of the Indian Army. The certificates were presented to the officers for unique innovations done by them in areas such as communications, counter-terror operations, simulation etc.

            The parades and processions organised during the Army Day display the might of our Armed Forces personnel. The missiles, tanks, carriers, modern weapons are displayed in the procession. Different regiments participate in the parades. The unparalleled contributions of the soldiers are honoured with the bravery awards like Vishist Seva Medals and Sena Medals along with unit credentials.
